83% of consumers still prefer to shop in physical stores, with 62% citing the ability to see, touch, and try products as a key factor.
Problem
The pandemic has led to a shift towards online shopping, resulting in a lack of engagement with physical shopping spaces and a monotonous shopping experience. This trend not only affects the retail industry but also has a broader impact on social interaction.
To address this issue, it is essential to find ways to encourage people to engage with physical shopping spaces, make shopping more enjoyable, and enhance social interaction.
Solution
Augmented Reality (AR) helps shoppers navigate through the store and find the products they are looking for easily. The platform would provide users with a virtual rocket that would guide them to the location of the desired item.
Additionally, the platform would also offer users the opportunity to collect digital flowers as a form of a treasure hunt to earn rewards. This gamification aspect of the platform would make the shopping experience more fun and engaging for users. By combining AR technology and gamification, "Shopping Quest" aims to make shopping a more enjoyable and memorable experience for consumers.

Initial Idea
Using light & space as a wayfinding tool
When I began the project, my goal was to create a natural and minimally-lit environment for shoppers to navigate through. I chose to use lighting because it seamlessly integrates with the surroundings and provides essential visual guidance.
During my research, I discovered the captivating works of James Turell. His art employs shapes and forms that heighten the viewer's visual perception and enhance their overall experience.

Why did I change?
I have made numerous attempts to enhance the lighting in the environment by utilizing the 'Magic Bullet' plug-in. However, the final result did not achieve the desired level of visual appeal. Additionally, I attempted to incorporate interactive lighting, but found it challenging to understand and it did not significantly contribute to the overall aesthetic quality.

To enable augmented reality, I aimed to incorporate geometric 3D shapes into the project. However, instead of creating realistic 3D shapes, I opted for illustrated versions to establish a clear distinction between the augmented and real-world elements.
Color Palette
Initial palette
My objective was to create a vibrant color palette that would provide me with the flexibility to explore diverse design options for crafting realistic objects.
The initial color palette in action, I encountered a problem where the colors of the 3D object were blending too much with the background. This made it difficult to track the rocket's movement, and I realized that a different color scheme might be necessary.
Final Palette
My aim was to select colors that would contrast vividly against the background and were not commonly found in everyday scenarios. Therefore, I chose a cartoonish space color scheme to achieve this objective.
