Bans, Barriers, and Burdens is an Editorial-Interactive designed in Figma that seeks to educate readers on the current state of reproductive rights in the US. Part of New Media Capstone II 2023, at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
The problem
In July 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that protected the constitutional right to abortion, Roe vs. Wade, was overturned. This decision left legislation up to individual states. In some states, like New York, not much changed. In fact, many states have since passed legislation to further protect reproductive rights. It’s highly important for those with the legal, political, and financial privilege to fight to protect and expand reproductive rights and access.
The solution
“Bans, Barriers, and Burdens” seeks to educate and spread awareness about the repercussions that we are currently facing and could face in the future. It is an imagined website that exists in Figma. Interactive elements and data visualizations supplement the written content as the reader moves through the piece.
Goals: educate, present information, and inspire action
